Attitudes of employers toward persons with schizophrenia: Duzce example

This study was descriptive in order to examine employers ' attitudes towards the employment of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. The sample of study consisted employers of factories in Düzce with more than 50 employees. Data of the study were collected through the Personal Information Form and the Employers' Attitudes towards Employees with Disabilities Scale. Data of research were analyzed in SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 22.0 package program. Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Shapiro-Wilk tests, student t test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis and Chi-square tests were used in the analysis of the data. The average age of the employers participating in the study was 37.7±8.9 years, average score of the Attitudes towards Disables at Workplace Scale was 3.83±0.43. It was determined that half of the employers were women, 90.3% of them were university graduates, 66.7% of them were in the human resources position, the majority of them were working in the textile business line (26.4%) for 0-5 years (55.6%).It was found that 90.9% of employers had no disabilities, 73.6% had no relatives with disabilities, 81.9% had a positive view of employing disabled employee, all employed disabled employee, and the majority of disabled employee (68.1%) had orthopedic disabilities. 52.8% of employers thought positively about the employment of people with disabilities, while 41.7% thought positively about the employment of people with mental illness. In the employment of individuals with psychiatric disabilities, most (43.1%), staff working in community mental health services were recommended to cooperate jointly with employers and İŞKUR. According to the results obtained from the study, employers develop a positive attitude to the employment of people with psychiatric disabilities recomended to carry out and organize training programs to reduce stigma; in order to increase employment, it was more comprehensive and sustainable studies.
