Mobbing at workplace and its impact on employee motivation

Abstract (EN)
The primary goal of this study is to recognize the relationship between employee motivation and mobbing - if existed - in the workplace.The study consists of three main sections. The first two section, mobbing and motivation, consist of the literature part which are the concepts described in. The third section is a research study aimed to determine the effects of mobbing on employee motivation.For the purpose of the survey, a questionnaire was prepared consisting of three main sections. In the first part of the survey, participants are asked to identify the demographic characteristics. In the second part of survey, there is the "Negative Behavior Scale" which is composed of 22 proposition in order to determine how often participants are exposed to mobbing and 30 questions asked to assess variety of situations about the mobbing. Finally, the third part of the study consists of the Mc Clelland's Motivation Test which is composed from 30 proposition in order to determine the level of motivation of participants.209 personnel who work in the headquarters and the branches of banks those are located in Ankara province, participated in the study. The datum obtained through the applied questionnaires was coded and transferred to the database created in the SPSS 16.0 program. Entering these data to the data base frequency analyses were performed, then the necessary findings were reached on the mobbing and motivation levels. To evaluate the relationship between mobbing and motivation with demographic factors Independent Sample T-test and Mann-Whitney U test has been used for the two-group comparisons; the Kruskal-Wallis H test and One Way ANOVA test has been used for more than two-group comparisons.Then to test the relationship between mobbing and required levels of success, relationship and power in the Mc Clelland's motivation test, the correlation analysis was performed. Findings obtained from the results of the research show that there is not a statistically significant relationship between the frequency of participants' exposure to mobbing and the required levels of success, relationship and power that affect their motivation.
