The aim of this study, is to analyze the relationship between the theories of seeing and the text entitled Palomar of Italo Calvino, one of the most important authors of twentieth century Italian literature. For this reason, first of all, it is tried to establish the history of seeing by showing the ideas of many important figures from different eras and disciplines. In this three chaptered study, the important factors that effect seeing such as the mind-body dualism and the negligence of the senses are analyzed and by comparing these factors with Calvino's thoughts on them that he expressed in his many different theoretical and fictitious texts, it is tried to enlighten the author's lifelong interest in the theories of seeing and the effect of this interest to his literary style. In the final chapter of the study, the relationship between Palomar and the theories of seeing and how Calvino's interest in these theories effected the text are analyzed under the light of the informations provided by previous chapters.
