Selectivity of hooks used in catching picarels

Abstract (EN)

In this study, trying different types of (number and shape) fish hooks used in catching picarel in Dardanelles strait, the parameters of them have been calculated.Caught species by these hooks are composed of 90,18 % picarel (Spicara maena), 3,60 % painted comber (Serranus cabrilla), 2,45 % mediterranean horse mackerel (Trachurus mediterraneaus), 1,15 % brown comber (Serranus hepatus), 2,62 % other species (common horse mackerel, mediterranean shad, blue fish, axillary bream, annular sea bream, common pandora, butterfly blenny, rainbow wrasse).Measurement of caught fishes by Yellow fish hooks, used in catching picarel, are determined as max. 18,2cm min 12,7 cm, max. 73g min 26 g. As for measurement of caught fishes by black hooks are determined max. 19,3 cm, min 12,4 cm and min 22 g max. 88 g.Parameters of length- weight relationships of caught picarels for totally fish are a=0,0062, b=3,2335 (r=0,7872) for yellow hooks are a=0,0053, b=3,2807, (r=0,8047) for black hooks are a=0,0093, b=3,0969 (r=0,7751).It is concluded that, the relationships between fish length and are strong and positive sided.Optimum catch length of 5,5 , 7,3 ve 8,5 mm mouth sized black fish hooks are respectively 12,62 , 16,75 ve 19,50, common selectivity factor and common standard deviation are respectively 2,29 ve 1,32. Same mouth sized yellow fish hooks optimum catch length are respectively 12,13 , 16,10 ve 18,75, common selectivity factor and common standard deviation are respectively 2,20 ve 1,28.Key Words: Picarel, Selectivity, mouth size, the Dardanelles
