Abstract (EN)

In this research, a 62-site GNSS network was generated to determine deformations in İBTZ and its surrounding. Old data of these sites were prosided and 2 campaign GNSS measurements were carried out in 2018-2019 where needed. All data were evaluated with GAMIT / GLOBK software and the region's Eurasian fixed (ITRF2008) velocities were calculated. By combining this velocities with the velocities published in previous studies, a comprehensive velocity field of 111 sites was obtained. Using this velocity field, strain area and the geodetic earthquake recurrence periods for Mw ≥ 5.5, Mw ≥ 6, Mw ≥ 6.5 and Mw ≥ 7 earthquakes were calculated. In addition, a new block model for the region has been suggested. Finally, the earthquake potential of the faults in the region has been calculated. The results show that IBTZ and its immediate surroundings move in the southwest direction with 18-28 mm/yr. The strains were high around HBFZ and MoF, therefore, the earthquake recurrence periods were low in these regions (for Mw ≥ 6 approximately 100 years, Mw ≥ 7 approximately 1000 years). It has been calculated that the segments on HBFZ may cause an earthquake with a maximum magnitude of Mw: 7.3. It was evaluated that the region could be represented by a model consisting of 6 blocks and 16 segments where the extension regime was dominant.
