Determination of the moss flora of İzmir Bozdağlar range and investigation of the biological activities of some samples

During the field study conducted within the Bozdağlar Range, located in the central western part of the Menderes Massif in the Aegean Region, bryophyte samples were collected. These samples were evaluated, leading to the identification of 21 families, 51 genera, and 100 taxa. Among the identified taxa, 18 were recorded for the first time in the B6 grid square. From the collected bryophyte samples, Homalothecium aureum (Spruce) H.Rob., Homalothecium philippeanum (Spruce) Schimp., Hypnum andoi A.J.E.Sm., Leucodon sciuroides (Hedw.) Schwägr., Tortella squarrosa (Brid.) Limpr., and Polytrichastrum formosum (Hedw.) G.L.Sm. were selected for biological activity tests. The selected samples were subjected to antimicrobial activity, antioxidant activity, antibiofilm activity, and anti-quorum sensing activity tests to reveal their biological activities. Additionally, the total phenolic content of the bryophyte samples was analyzed, and their biochemical compositions were determined using GC/MS analysis. The results indicated that the strongest antimicrobial and antioxidant effects were observed in Polytrichastrum formosum (Hedw.) G.L.Sm., the strongest antioxidant activity in Homalothecium aureum (Spruce) H.Rob. and Homalothecium philippeanum (Spruce) Schimp., and the strongest anti-quorum sensing activity in Homalothecium aureum (Spruce) H.Rob., Homalothecium philippeanum (Spruce) Schimp., and Polytrichastrum formosum (Hedw.) G.L.Sm.
