Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to determine the factors affecting adherences to dietary recommendations of 2 to 5 years old children. Food Frequency Questionnaire, Data Collection Form and Parent Mealtime Action Scale were used. Turkey Dietary Guidelines was used as a reference. Adherences to recommendations for each food group along with 'total dietary recommendations' were analyzed. Of the 132 children, 47.7 % were in poor adherence, 49.2% in good adherence and 3.0 % in excessive intake group. Children with good adherence to dietary recommendations had higher BMI while children with poor adherence were underweight (p=0.037). Children with older sibling (p=0.047) and children having less frequency of eating in front of the screen (p=0.005) had good adherence. Proportion of finding the information obtained from pediatrician as useful (p=0.042) and "daily fruit and vegetable availability" was higher (p=0.046) in parents of children having good adherence. "Use of rewards" (p=0.008) and "special meals"( p=0.018) was found to be higher for parents of children in poor adherence group. As a conclusion, this study shows that some of the child and familial characteristics, infant nutrition, information sources and child feeding practices have an impact on adherence to dietary recommendations. In consideration of this study, caregivers should be educated by the health care providers about these practices.
