Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among science teachers? teaching strategies, teaching styles and multiple intelligence fields. The research population is 3718 science teachers who worked in İzmir during the instructional period of 2005-2006. The sample of the research is 708 teachers of physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and science who were randomly selected by random sampling technique. In the research, ?Teaching Styles Scale? developed by Serin, Bulut Serin and Serin (2005) and ?Multiple Intelligence Inventory? developed by Saban (2002) were used for determining the teaching styles and multiple intelligences of the teachers respectively. The Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient is 0.87 for ?Teaching Styles Scale? and 0.92 for ?Multiple Intelligence Inventory?. As the independent variable of the research ?The personal Information Form? was used and as the dependent variables of the research ?Teaching Styles Scale? and ?Multiple Intelligence Inventory? were used. The significance level of the research was determined to be .05. In order to analyze the data, percentage calculations, One-Way Variance Analysis (ANOVA), t-test, Scheffe and LSD tests of significance and Pearson Moments Product Correlation coefficient were employed. The research results show that there are positive relations among verbal intelligence, encouragement and teaching style; mathematical intelligence and being model; spatial intelligence, encouragement and teaching style; kinesthetic intelligence and encouragement; naturalistic intelligence and encouragement; interpersonal, encouragement, being model and teaching style. Moreover, there is also a positive significant relation among intrapersonal, encouragement, being model and planning. Finally, as a general result, it was identified that science teachers working in İzmir have an average level of teaching styles and developed level of intelligence regarding the all fields.Key Words: Science teachers, teaching styles, teaching methods and techniques, multiple intelligence theory.
