Evaluation of Ottoman industrialization policies of Izmir Industrial School through education and their social reflections

The aim of the research is; to evaluate the industrial schools, which are a concrete indicator of the reflection of the Ottoman Industrialization Policies on education, through the example of Izmir Industrial School and to examine their social reflections. In the research, research methods of historical science were used. In order to determine the documents as predicted by the science of history, the source was scanned, the sources were classified, examined and analyzed. In this context, the documents in the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archive, the annuals in the Izmir Industrial School Archive, the Aydın Vilayet Salnames, the Maarif Yearbooks, the Maxims, the First Hand sources and the information obtained from the copyright works were evaluated objectively. With the awareness in the Ottoman bureaucracy that industrialization could not be achieved only by opening factories and production facilities, industrial schools were opened with the aim of providing art education to orphan children and making sustainable production with the encouragement of the state within the framework of industrialization policies. The industrial schools, where orphan children had the opportunity to live in shelter and education, served to keep the arts alive. Izmir Industrial School, which is one of the first of the industrial schools, is one of the most successful among the industrial schools in terms of housing many orphan children and production activities. Izmir Industrial School, which has existed since its establishment, had a larger budget than other industrial schools due to the fact that Izmir is a port city, the donations of philanthropists, especially the lotteries organized for the benefit of the school. For this reason, there were more branches of art in Izmir Industrial School than any other. The people who grew up in Izmir Industrial School met the artisan needs of the region and other regions. In this respect, the example of Izmir Industrial School is to show that it is a right step to advance industrialization through educational institutions by training art masters of industrial schools. Although Industrial Schools cannot play a serious role in terms of creating heavy industry and establishing an industrial network, they have an important place in terms of keeping the arts alive and realizing light industrial production with modern technology.
