Translation of Izmirli Ismail Haqqi's work "Felsefe-i Ûlâ" and analysis of the problem of evil in this Work

The thesis has been prepared with the motive of Felsefe-i Ûlâ, one of the works of Izmirli Ismail Haqqi in the metaphysical field. We have formed our study on the basis of the translation of this work, written in Ottoman Turkish. In our thesis, some fundamental problems of the philosophy of religious have been questioned in the frame of the work of the late Ottoman philosopher. Therefore, the arguments of Izmirli against the evil problem, his philosophy of epistemology and ontology, his opinions of the other issue of metaphysics in terms of the isbât-ı wajib his perspective to the context of the relationship between God and universe have been analyzed and his views have been associated with the field of philosophy of religion. The main issue of our study is the ideas of Izmirli on the evil problem, one of the fundamental issues in the discipline of philosophy of religion, in Felsefe-i Ûlâ. It has been perceived that the providence of God and the free will of human theodicies exist in the work within the context of the evil problem. The issue of providence has been concluded as the basic theodicy in this regard. His solutions to the evil problem can be said to be convincing and effective. He supported his views by emphasizing the free will of the human being as he is basing the thesis that the badness could not be from Allah. In addition, the Felsefe-i Ûlâ of Izmirli has been compared with his other work of metaphysics, called Muhtasar Mâ-ba'dü't-tabîa in terms of format and content. This comparison examines the conception and content preferences of the philosopher in the metaphysical field. Thus, in this thesis, the views on the metaphysical issues of Izmirli have been investigated, and by addressing them from various perspectives, it has been pointed out how he adopted the approach in his preferences.
