İznik Roman theatre metal objects

This thesis examines a part of the metal objects found in the Roman Theatre of Iznik. In the group of metal objects found during the 2015-2016-2017-2018 and 2019 excavation seasons, 72 artifacts whose restoration and conservation have been completed, which can serve as new examples for different material groups, were evaluated in terms of their condition and identifiability and examined within the academic perspective of the thesis. Metals, grouped according to their usage areas, are dated by the help of analogy according to the ceramic and coin findings in the layers in which metals were found. The metal objects of the Iznik Roman Theater are artifacts produced in a wide range of dates, such as the 2nd century AD and the 15th century AD, allowing us to obtain data that supports the continuity of the active period of the theater. In terms of the archeology of the Bithynia Region, one of the relatively under-explored regions, examining the artifacts recovered from the Iznik Roman Theater is very valuable in terms of providing data for understanding the settlement and human life in this region during the Ancient Ages. The works discussed within the scope of the thesis have been interpreted according to the changes and different usage periods of the theater since the day it was built, the sociopolitical situation of the period in which the works were produced, the daily life and the materials. It aims to evaluate a detailed study and contribute to Anatolian Archeology, especially Bithynia Region Archeology, regarding the data and inferences from this study.
