Popova designs on the jacquard weaving

Political and social events such as the Industrial Revolution that started in England, the French Revolution that took place in France and the 1917 October Revolution, which erased Tsarist Russia from the historical scene, had a profound impact on the field of art and culture, as well as many other fields. The Russian art world, influenced by the October Revolution and the Soviet ideology, has undertaken the task of shaping the dressing style of the new society while initiating and maintaining many art movements. Lyubov Sergeyevna Popova, one of the pioneers of the first Soviet Fashion, managed to impress her name in the history of fashion, textile and art by deeply influencing the Soviet fashion world with the textile designs she prepared under the influence of the Constructivism. In the first part of this study, various socio-economic and political events affecting the textile world are mentioned and the art trends and the formation process of the design concept in textiles were examined in detail. In the second part of the study, Popova's development as an "artist-constructor", her understanding of art, her strong effects in the design world and her unique designs are given in detail. By comprehensive literature searching, famous fabric firms that included Popova patterns in fabric collections or made new designs with similar effects were researched. In the third part, there are jacquard fabric samples prepared under the influence of Popova patterns, which were worked by me as a designer at Pehlivan Mensucat between 2004-2018.
