A search on gendormerie nco vocational higih school students' written exposition

This research is prepared to determine the narration knowledge and experience level of the students of Gendarmerie NCO Vocational High School. In the search, the written works of the 130 first grade cadets in Gendarmerie NCO Vocational High School in 2006-2007 education season are investigated. In this research, the students are to write a composition choosing a subject from the 15 subjects given to them. The narration of the students was evaluated by the criteria of expositional, dictation and punctuation mistakes. The sentences written by the students were evaluated using 13 titles of expositional mistakes: %6.37 the words used in wrong meanings; %5.59 using of useless words; %8.49 unnecessary repeating; %2.12 wrong using of idioms and proverbs; %5.98 wrong rows of the elements of the sentence; %13.89 lack of an element in the sentence; %19.49 logical mistakes; %2.31 subject-verb disagreement; %14.47 misusing of clauses; %2.31 unnecessary affixes of moods and personal; %13.32 lack or wrong using of affixes; %4.24 non-determination of pronouns; %1.35 disagreement of active-passive and causatives. It was realized that the students made mistakes 518 times. The sentences in students' narration were examined by the criteria of 11 dictation mistakes: %38.28 writing of "-de" affix (confusing of conjunction "-de" and state affix "-de") %7.53 misusing of "-ki" (conjunction or affix "-ki"); no mistake in the using of "neither…nor" (ne…ne); %1.42 writing of question affix; %1.22 writing of numbers; %25,45 writing of capital letters; %22.6 writing of compound words; %0.2 writing of idioms; %0.4 writing of repeating words; %2.44 iv writing of the words taken from a foreign language; %0.4 writing of abbreviations. It was realized that the students made 491 times dictation mistakes. The sentences written by the students were evaluated according to the punctuation mistakes: % 10.37 using of full-stop; %26.4 comma; %17.92 semi colon; %8.49 two dots; %2.83 three dots; %3.77 using of question mark; no mistake in using of exclamation mark; %0.9 using of short line (the line used in two words); %4.71 using of quotation mark; %24.52 apostrophe mark; no mistake in cutting the words at the end of the line and structure of syllable. It was realized that the students made 106 times punctuation mistakes. In this research, using the information obtained by the research, various suggestions were given to improve the written exposition skills of the students (dictation, punctuation, expositional mistake).
