Abstract (EN)
Gender inequality has become a central focus of academic research in recent years, leading to numerous studies and literary analyses that reassess societal dynamics and power structures. This growing body of work has heightened awareness of the physical and psychological pressures, discrimination, and broader systemic inequalities faced by women. Literary works serve as reflections of their respective societies, offering extensive opportunities for scholarly inquiry. Comparative literature, in particular, facilitates cross-cultural analysis by examining works from different literary traditions, thereby fostering deeper intercultural understanding. This study undertakes a comparative analysis of Bir Yaşdönümü Rüyası from Turkish literature and Jane Eyre from English literature, with a focus on women's existence and identity in two distinct cultural contexts. By exploring the societal pressures imposed on women and their manifestations in female characters, this study aims to illuminate both the similarities and differences between the two works. The analysis will examine the challenges women encounter in their processes of identity formation and individuation, as well as the strategies they employ to navigate these struggles, irrespective of temporal and geographical boundaries. Methodologically, this study will draw upon comparative literary theory, feminist critique, and sociological analysis to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject.
