Horror in japanese anime cinema and a film application

Fear is a concept that has ancient roots in Japanese culture and has an important place in various branches of art. In the historical process, Japanese mythology, legends and daily life practices have shaped this concept. In Japanese society, the concept of fear first found its place in oral tradition and then in written literature. The 'Kaidan' stories of the Edo period (1603-1868) formed the basis of supernatural horror narratives. With the development of the art of cinema, Japanese horror cinema created its own language and gained a unique narrative with the social traumas after World War II. Since the 1970s, manga has given important works in the horror genre and paved the way for the development of anime cinema. Methodologically, the research used a method based on Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic paradigm. The symbolic and metaphorical elements in Junji Ito's works have been systematically analysed. The results of the analysis show that iconographic elements and character representations in anime productions are essential elements of the narrative and interpretive identity of the works. These signs play a role in strengthening the structural integrity and thematic content of the narrative. Contemporary Japanese anime art combines traditional horror elements with modern narrative techniques. As a result of this examination, the formation dynamics and layers of meaning of the images in horror animations are analysed from a multidimensional perspective with a semiotic approach. With the discovery of more in-depth visual narrative possibilities in the field of cartoons, a guide has been created for the cartoon series or films broadcast in Turkey and to be prepared in the future. With this study, it is aimed to contribute to the productions to express more comprehensive meanings through visual indicators. Keywords: Horror, Japan, Manga, Cinema, Anime
