A research on Japanese textile dyeing and patterning techniques

Our research primarily focuses on Japanese textiles dyeing technique made from cotton, silk ,boshu-fu and hemp. Silk as a material played an important historical role in Japanese society especially when talking about nobility and the upper classes. However, we may and will ignore silk and focuse our attention on those fabrics which are associated with Japanese traditional arts; indigo textiles for daily use and peasant clothing covering all the period in general. Combination with natural dye references derived from plants, which have been widely used during ancient times.The above mentioned view can bring a general definition for Japanese history in general but shows some variations during the Edo period when economic, commercial and social conditions created some differentiations that made textiles and textile based products an even more important form of social identification. Some of the criteria, designs, and textile dyeing techniques of the eighteenth and nineteenth century can still be seen to this day. For example, a preference for natural materials, a preference for traditional dyeing techniques (katazome,yuzen Rozome;kasuri) and Japanese: kasuri techniques today are more popular than figured twills and satins.Different dyeing techniques in Japan can create some wonderful and extremely unusual effects on fabric. Tie dyeing is very familiar, and whilst some of the first attempts might conjure up some unsuccessful memories, when done correctly the effects can be quite stunning. Other dyeing techniques such as shibori, deep dyeing, paste resist ,Kasuri, printing etc., each bring something different to the fabric.Keeping a reader in mind who wishes to gain a genneral knowledge about our field of resarch, we thought it right, to give some detailed information about above mentioned subjects and related techniques. We hope that our work will be a modest contribution and point of reference for further resarches.
