Cultural studies in acting in the context of Jerzy Grotowski and Eugenio Barba

It is observed that the cultural activities that individuals perform throughout their lives have performative and dramatic elements and point to symbolic meanings and actionable dimensions that determine cultural identities. With this discovery, theatrical techniques began to be used as an alternative method for interpreting individual life in anthropology. The body uses of performers in rituals have also been investigated in order to improve the presence of the actor in the theatre. At the same time, it has been noticed that there are influences on the cultural identity as well as the theatrical identity of the actor-individuals in a theatre study. In this study; in line with the creation of common fields of work in anthropology and theatre, a theoretical background was created for how anthropology uses theatrical techniques. And then the work of Jerzy Grotowski, who envisioned a ritualistic approach in theatre, and Eugenio Barba, who was a complement to these works, was studied by bringing together actors from different cultures. As a result of the study of the composition of anthropology and theatre, examples of exercises that the actor can practice and be inspired by, either singularly or with an ensemble, are presented. The study focuses on the possibilities and limitations that the cultural and social life of the actors brings to the practice of theatre, which leads to the cultural determination of the individuals.
