The effect of Jigsaw IV technique on academic success of secondary school students in Turkish and foreign language (English) courses

The aim of this research is to examine the effect of Jigsaw IV technique on the academic success of secondary school students in Turkish and foreign language (English) courses. The research was carried out with a total of 153 students from Atatürk Secondary School and Cansan Secondary School, which are affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, in the Bahçe district of Osmaniye province in the 2022/2023 academic year. The method used in the research is a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control and experimental groups. In the experimental group, Jigsaw IV technique, which is one of the cooperative learning techniques, was taught with the existing teaching techniques in the control group. As a data collection tool, the Academic Achievement Test (ABT) consisting of 20 questions was applied. SPSS program was used in the evaluation of academic achievement tests. The t-test was applied to determine whether there was a significant difference between the descriptive statistics and averages of the pre-test scores applied to the experimental and control groups. The duration of the study was carried out for 5 weeks, 3 course hours per week, for a total of 15 course hours. As a result of the research, it was revealed that the Jigsaw IV technique significantly increased academic achievement in Turkish and foreign language (English) courses.
