Examining the effect of online nursing education given to patients diagnosed with gynecological cancer and receiving chemotherapy on the symptoms experienced, quality of life and patient satisfaction.

This study aimed to examine the effect of online nursing education applied to women diagnosed with gynecological cancer and receiving chemotherapy. This randomized controlled and experimental study was conducted in a public hospital in Balıkesir province between 1 December 2021 and 1 June 2024. The sample of the study consisted of 90 women (intervention=45, control=45). Online nursing training was provided to women in the intervention group who were receiving chemotherapy treatment. In the study, women's descriptive characteristics questionnaire, disease and treatment questionnaire, European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire, Nightingale Symptom Assessment Scale, nurse follow-up form, and patient satisfaction survey were used. Data were collected during three cycles of chemotherapy in four phases. In the study, no statistically significant difference was found in terms of the descriptive characteristics of the women in the intervention and control groups. At the third follow-up, the mean score of European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire general well-being was statistically significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group. At the third follow-up, the median scores of fatigue, nausea and vomiting, pain, insomnia, loss of appetite, constipation, and diarrhea in the intervention group were statistically significantly lower than the control group. At the third follow-up, the mean score of the Nightingale Symptom Assessment Scale physical and psychological well-being was found to be statistically significantly lower in women in the intervention group than in the control group. The mean satisfaction score with the online nursing education provided was found to be 9.1±0.8 out of 10. The study found that online nursing education offered to women diagnosed with gynecological cancer and receiving chemotherapy had an impact on the symptoms that women experienced, quality of life, and patient satisfaction.
