The concepts of Justice, peace and consensus in Johan Galtung and Chantal Mouffe

In the first part of the thesis, the conflict and its causes, the methods of solving, and the relationship of the way followed with peace and justice are considered in the context of Galtung. Subsequent to identification of Galtung's conceptual map, possibility and impossibility of a lasting fair peace was chosen as the fundamental problematic for which we have sought to answer within such concepts as constructive violance, fundamental needs, transcension, transformation, peace, justice. On the other hand, the place of consensus concept which is discussed as relation to political sphere, in Galtung context is also discussed. In the second part of the thesis, antagonism, agonism and their political distinction determine the basic lines of this passage in the context of Mouffe. Within the context of physical violance inclusion, antagonism is considered as the starting point of violance. In our classification of antagonism's origins, 'constructive externality', 'language games' and 'universalism' that Derrida, Wittgenstein and Kant brought in literature were preferred. In the context of transforming non-violent agonism after the passage we claim that integrity attitude of modernity causes to antagonism, the emphasis is placed on the attitude of post-modernist participle structures. In the last part of this chapter, the role of political one in the establishment of peace and its links to justice are dealed. Galtung and Mouffe's conceptual comprehension of politics, methodological differences that arise as a result of these presuppositions, and finally the comparison of all these reflections to the political arena constitute the main vertebra of the third part of our thesis. A comparison on a conceptual/textual basis was preferred, noting that Galtung is a structuralist peace-conflict theorist and Mouffe is a post-structuralist political philosopher. The attempt of both philosophers' ontological and epistemological acceptances to determine the place of permanent compromises in political one has been thoroughly examined within this section.
