Abstract (EN)
Modeling of heat treatments applied to materials is now done with commercial software. The commercial programs that make these models present their users with a high level of accuracy in their knowledge of the mechanical properties of the workpiece after heat treatment and grain composition. Accurate determination of the value of the convection coefficient, which symbolizes the amount of heat transfer between the material and the coolant liquid, will increase the accuracy of the heat treatment models. The surface roughness and material type of the test sample will be equally effective as well as the temperature of the coolant liquid, temperature and type of convection. In this context, the redesigned Jominy tester is able to apply heat treatment variable (coolant type, temperature and application speed) to the test sample in a controlled and measurable manner. This study presents a new approach to finding the convection coefficient, which is essential to know the heat treatment. It is expected that the time-cooling curves obtained by using the commercial approach "modeling with finite element method" and the test instrument are compared with the presented approach and the graphs overlap. The convection coefficient given at random is changed in the commercial software until the overlap occurs. The convection coefficient given in the commercial case where overlap is determined as the actual convection coefficient resulting from the variables (flow temperature, coolant temperature and type, surface roughness of the test sample and material type). In this context, Jominy quenching experiment and finite element modeling of SAE/AISI 1050 steel were done. A jominy test was conducted for the AISI 1050 steel. Cooling conditions were also modeled for commercial material ABAQUS for the same material. Graphs were obtained according to the convection coefficient given at random during modeling. Among these graphs, the best matching result graph was obtained. The approximate overlap of the curves obtained from the experimental and modeling results was determined to be 15000 W/m2K of the convection coefficient for the cooling parameters in the jominy test conditions (such as cooling fluid and temperature used, cooling fluid flow, material type and surface properties). The determination of the convection coefficients (h) will also form a database for studies involving prospective thermodynamics and energy transfer. The biggest problem in the thermal design of machine tools and equipments nowadays containing energy systems is the difficulty in calculating the convection catheters (h). This thesis study will reveal scientific findings that will aid in the identification of convection cathedrals (h)
