Import smuggling crime committed within the scope of the anti-smuggling law

Import smuggling is a serious problem that not only causes economic losses but also causes public health, environmental safety and unfair competition for domestic producers. Although the Anti-Smuggling Law in Turkey aims to provide an effective fight against import smuggling, criminal sanctions alone are not sufficient to prevent this crime. Import smuggling is a complex crime type that is generally carried out by advanced criminal organizations on an international scale. Therefore, the fight needs to be addressed with a more comprehensive strategy. Developing effective control mechanisms in the fight against import smuggling is of great importance in terms of preventing crimes. Customs inspections need to be strengthened, new technologies need to be utilized and the coordination of public institutions needs to be increased. In addition, establishing a control process in which importing companies and all stakeholders bear responsibility will be effective in preventing this crime. International cooperation plays a critical role in preventing import smuggling. With the liberalization of global trade, coordination at the international level should be increased to combat smuggling. In addition, raising awareness in society and explaining the economic and social damages of import smuggling will increase public sensitivity to the law. As a result, an effective fight against import smuggling will be possible not only with criminal sanctions, but also with strong control mechanisms, international cooperation and public awareness. A comprehensive fight is required, not only legally, but also socially and economically.
