Abstract (EN)
The Qajar Period was a time in which the interaction between the Iranians and the West gained momentum and the modernization movement displayed itself manifestly. Such developments also had an impact on the popularization of travel book as a literary genre. From the Qajar Period, where many travelogues were written, we currently have a large number of travel books in which, travels to various destinations are narrated. Among these travel books, the number of pilgrim (haj) travel books is remarkable. In addition to the travel books of male pilgrims, women also participated in the writing of travel books. In our study, the pilgrimage travel book of two women notables who lived in this period; their narratives about themselves, their visits and cultural issues have been studied. Travel book writing genre, having a unique literature in literary genres, has produced unique works within its own tradition. Such works, products within individual writing genre, provide primary information about their time. From the narratives of two Iranian women authors from the Qajar period, it is possible to gain insights about the portrait of women, as well as first hand impressions on the Atabât cities, the Hejaz region and the pilgrimage route under the Ottoman rule. Within this context, as preliminary to the subject of our study, travel book literature and its place in Persian literature, especially during the Qajar period is mentioned. After that, information on the lives and works of Sekine Sultan and Mihrimah Hanım, subject of our study, are provided by references to their works. Following that information, narratives regarding themselves, their visits and culture and history from their work, in which they told daily happenings in general, are presented in a composed manner.
