Effects of aceton O-(2-naphtylsulfonyl)oxim application on maize seedlings under cadmium stress

Abstract (EN)

We tried to elucidate the effect of acetone O-(2-naphthylsulfonyl)oxime (ANSO) on maize (Zea mays) seedlings exposed to cadmium stressor. We created 4 experimental groups: the group formed for the control and in which the samples were kept in distilled water for 18 hours, the group formed for the ANSO application and the samples were first kept in 0.3 mM ANSO for 6 hours, followed by 12 hours in distilled water, the group formed for the Cd application and the samples were first kept in distilled water for 6 hours, followed by 100 μM for 12 hours, the group formed for the ANSO+Cd application and the samples were first kept in 0.3 mM ANSO for 6 hours and then in 100 μM CdCl2 for 12 hours. 7.8 times of Cd accumulation caused by Cd application in the plant was realized in ANSO+Cd application. However, the highest increase in ABA values was observed in the Cd application alone. Cd application decreased RWC and chlorophyll values compared to the values in the control groups. In addition, the carotenoid value, which increased with Cd application compared to the control, increased more with ANSO+Cd. H2O2 and MDA values increased with Cd treatment and decreased with ANSO+Cd treatment. CAT, GPX and APX activities increased with Cd treatment compared to control. However, GPX decreased with ANSO pretreatment, while CAT and APX increased even more. SOD activity remained equal in the Cd and ANSO+Cd groups, but decreased compared to the control groups. Proline content increased with Cd application and decreased with ANSO pretreatment. There was a decrease in ascorbic acid and catechol compared to the control with Cd application, but the values increased relatively with ANSO+Cd application. Cinnamic acid and trans P-coumaric acid increased with Cd application compared to control. As a result, it can be said that ANSO pre-application in maize plant exposed to Cd stress contributes to the protection of the plant by providing chelation of Cd.
