Abstract (EN)
SUMMARYIMCs to which we faced as a problem growing day by day in health care, have a great importance for the nurses and midwives working in the important duties in patient care. For this reason, our research has carried out as the definitive in order to identify the IMCs to which the nurses and midwives working in the obstetrics faced. The research was performed by 365 nurses and midwives working in the obstetrics of total nine hospitals located in the city border of Ankara. Data was collected by using the one to one interwiev method and using the data collection form which was developed by the researcher. The definitive statistics (number, percentage) were assessed by Q-square tests and multivaration logistic regreesion analysis in the SPSS 15.0 package programme. In our study it was determined that %14.2 of the nurses and midwives performed IMC, and %65.4 gave some information after IMC and none of the patients experienced harm after IMC. The IMCs which the nurses and midwives most often performed were identified as the drud administration mistake (%54.5), communication mistake (%18.3) and follow-up mistake (%16.8). %47.4 of the nurses and midwives consider that IMCs result from the individual cause, and %32.2 of them consider that these result from the organizational causes. Nurses and midwives expressed in an important/very important very important way as attentivenes (%98.6), negligence (%98.6), insufficiency in the staff number (%96.5) and extreme work load (%96.5). The difference between the age, working years in the career, the patient number who the nurses and midwives provide care and the IMCs which they performed was statistically found significant (p<0.05). Due to these results, it was suggested that unexperienced nurses and midwives should be reported by the in-service education about IMC, and the number of nurses and midwives should be increased.Key words: Inferior medical care, nurse, midwive.
