Abstract (EN)

In today's world where women's problems are increasing, the role of the media is becoming increasingly important. Women's visibility also has an important place in being the voice of women and offering solutions to the current problem. As a matter of fact, the news media, which is an extension of the media, serves as an effective tool to reveal women's problems. However, the fact that the current media reconstructs, presents and circulates the male-dominated discourse can reveal a problem-based language in news about women. On the other hand, the concept of women-oriented journalism is fed by the awareness that women are centered and include women as subjects in news texts. In contrast to the patriarchal thought system, so to speak, it is among its main goals that women are in the primary position. The subject of this research; After the murder of Jina Mahsa Amini by the Iranian 'Morality Police' on September 16, 2022, on the grounds that her hair was visible from her headscarf, it constitutes the way in which women's support and rights struggles around the world are covered in the news. The purpose of choosing this topic, which is a current problem in the media; in the context of women-oriented journalism, it is to reveal the structure of the news language produced about women's actions in the Mahsa Amini case. The research universe consists of internet news with different editorial policies and ideologies. In this context, women's rights actions on Yeni Akit and Milliyet, which have a closer understanding of news, and Bianet and Sözcü, which have a closer understanding of news, were examined within the scope of the research. In the study, between September 16, 2022 and November 15, 2022, 15 news articles were examined, limited to the rights actions of women who supported Mahsa Amini and Iranian women. Current news was analyzed by Teun A. van Dijk's critical discourse analysis method. As a result of the research, women's rights actions were presented in a devaluing and polarizing language on the Yeni Akit news site. On the Milliyet news site, on the other hand, although the news is presented in a predominantly female way, it has been found that the male-dominated thought is hidden and placed in the news texts. In the news of Bianet and Sözcü, it can be said that women-oriented journalism has been adopted.
