Investigation of the effect of imagination on sportive self-confidence in women athletes

Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of imagination on sportive self-confidence in women athletes who play sports in Elazığ province, to determine the effect level of imagination on sportive confidence and whether there are differentiations in various variables of imagination. The universe of the research is constituted from 280 women professional athletes in Elazığ Province. The sample is constituted from women athletes who play in some professional sports clubs and women athletes who play in various branches for Youth Services and Sports Branches of the provincial directorate clubs. This work has been performed in 2017-2018 academic year with 198 women athletes. In this work, personal information form, imagination inventory for sports and the Continuous Sportive Self-Confidence Scale (SSIQ) were used as a data collection tool. Statistical software called SPSS was used for the analysis of the data and the significance level was accepted as p<0.05. It has been found that the imagination and sporting self-confidence levels of the women athletes constituting the research are high. In the imagination sub-dimensions, significant differences were found on both between the age and education levels of the athletes and between the sporting confidence and age factor. In addition, it was understood that imagination had a moderate positive relationship with sport confidence and any change in imagination would affect the mean scores of sport confidence by 46,0%. As a result, it can be found that imagination and the self-confidence level of the women athlete decreases by increasing age and education level which means education and age have adverse effect on imagination and self-confidence level of the women athletes. It is not observed any research about the effect of imagination on self-confidence in the literature and additionally, it is also not observed any investigation from the view of the demographic information used in this work. This situation increases the originality of the work.
