Representation of violence against women in the written media in the context of news discourse: The example of Emine Bulut

Femicide (murder of women) constitutes the final straw of violence towards women. Murder cases are all violence based cases whether on the agenda or not. Reactions to violence towards women, especially increased and became more visible in recent years, grow like an avalanche in social media as well, criminals can be punished thanks to the public opinion pressures. In this study, the approach to Emine Bulut murder case in news is being dwelt upon, which became talks of the town after publishing of the camera footage of her throat cut in front of her child. Subject murder has been committed by the former husband of Bulut, which proves the thesis of major part of violence towards women is committed by their acquaintances. Bulut has been placed in mind with her scream as "I do not want to die", with the scream of her daughter as "Mother, please do not die". In the first part of this study, the importance of the selected subject is underlined, in the ongoing parts, the violence is dwelt upon as a case and handling of murder of women in Turkish press. In the analysis part, how Bulut murder was put forward in the news stories of the newspapers mentioned within the coverage and limitations of the study.
