Economic violence againist women: The case of Izmi̇r province

Economic violence is when a sort of violence that threatens women from all walks of life and has destructive effects. Family members may occur by their spouse, boss, partner, or colleague, but it is not visible and known as other forms of violence. The perception of the concept of social structure and violence as physical, sexual and psychological violence, normalization of economic violence behaviours cause of the fact that the concept of economic violence is little known. The aim of this article is to establish how educated and employed women define economic violence and to examine the relationship between women's socioeconomic status and economic violence. The extent of this study was determined as educated and working women living in İzmir. In this article, the qualitative research methodology is used. This methodology was conducted with a semi-structured interview technique with 30 trained and working women. The data were analyzed with Nvivo 12 program. According to the findings of the study, participants characterized economic violence with economic control behaviours and 9 of 30 participants were exposed to economic control while 7 participants were exposed to economic exploitation Keywords: Violence, Economic Violence, Economic Violence in Working Life
