Abstract (EN)

In this research, the presentation of violence against a woman due to her lifestyle in internet news sites is taken as subject. The news about the case study from four news sites on the Internet in Turkey has been analysed with van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis. It has been determined that there is not enough sensitivity and care in the title, news entry and news texts and visual materials of internet news sites in terms of identity, sex, word selection and narration style, that the case of the violence is presented unilaterally through the eyes of the perpetrator with the detailed use of his assertions given to the judicial authorities, that cliche expressions used to attract attention have reduced the importance of violence, and that the discourse of the pressure groups is not sufficiently brought into the foreground while creating news about violence against women. In general, it is seen that the news sites do not set a certain policy towards violence against women in the construction of news, that violence of women is mostly considered as an individual problem, not a social problem, and that the news team do not adequately assess the influence of the media power in creating public opinion against violence.
