The role of values in relationship between attitudes toward violence against women and political tendency

Abstract (EN)
The main purpose of this research explain the mediator role of basic human values in the relationship between political tendency and attitudes toward violence against women and to specify the moderator effect of the ambivalent sexism which is expected to have an effect on basic human values. For preparing the survey, The Scale of Attitudes Toward Violence Against Women in Marriage, Portrait Values Questionnaire, Ambivalent Sexism Inventory and Political Tendency Form are used. Surveys are applied to 255 participants who lives in central district of Izmir. For analyse of data SPSS Process macro is used and practiced conditional effect analysis (moderated mediation). Mediation effects of values are tested by using two different models for each value. According to results, achievement, security and conformity- tradition values have an effect on the relationship between right-wing political tendency and positive attitudes toward violence against women. Universalism and hedonism values have an effect on the relationship between left-wing political tendency and positive attitudes toward violence against women. Depends on models, in different conditions, hostile sexism and benevolent sexism have moderator effect on the relationship of mediation relationships. In addition, correlation of research variables and conservatism and nationalism which are related to political tendency are examined. It is found that there are positive relations between both conservatism and nationalism and attitudes toward phsical violence. In the context of to examine the social psychological factors and to point the suggestions about solutions for violence against women problem, this research can contribute for literature.
