Models of women's shelters in preventing violence against women: Example of specialization

Violence against women, just like it is in many other places of the world, is also an important problem in Turkey. The word "Violence" includes different types as physical, economical and sexual. The term "women's shelter" occures for women facing with violence within the context of becoming distant of violence environment and becoming stronger by being supported. An effective communication may not be possible in case of people coming from different sociocultural and economical backgrounds and staying together because of the necessity. At the same time, people's different experiences causes different needs for the people. In this point, professionalisation is an important figure. In this study, using the document review method, women's shelters have been observed in Turkey and some other countries in the world; and it is discussed the professionalisation issue in women's shelters.
