Abstract (EN)

Domestic violence against women is the physical, sexual, psychological or economical violence they are exposed anywhere in the world. It can be seen that women exposed to such violence develop physical or psychological problems, even in some cases the violence ends up with domestic homicide or suicide. In the related research the current situation is either represented or violence against women is approached from the viewpoint of media, religion, law and it is seen that there has been no significant research strengthening women. Thus, it is thought that women should first protective and preventive measurements through gaining awareness of the elimination of the violence. Then they should develop abilities to solve the communication problems within the family and with the surrounding. Finally, it is thought that an educational program which will enable these women to reconstruct their self-esteem and look to the future with hope with healing and developing skills should be prepared. Therefore, Elimination of Violence Communication Training Program was prepared and it is aimed to find the effectiveness, positive/negative conditions occurring during the application of the program or the shortcomings of the program. In this experimental research, pre-post test control group design was used. The research was conducted with women participants who applied the Center of Social Services and Municipality Family Counseling Center. After 58 interviews with the candidates, first 14 were taken into the experimental group and the next 14 were taken into the control group. During the application of the study 16 sessions (48 hours) of Elimination of Violence Communication Training Program which consists of units of identifying the violence, developing protective and preventive measurements, and developing healing and developing skills was held with the 14 women participants of the experimental group. In order to test the research hypothesis, qualitative and quantitative data collection tools were used. Quantitative data were gathered through "Family Evaluation Scale", which highlights the dimensions of domestic violence against women within the family; "Violence within the Family Scale", which highlights the violence experiences; "Communication Skills Evaluation Scale", which highlights the communication skills; "Life Satisfaction Scale", which scales the life experiences of the participants. In addition, the quantitative data were supported with observation forms, interview records and forms including participant opinions. The four scales used to gather quantitative data in this study were analyzed with SPSS 21. Mann Whitney U-test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. No meaningful relationship was found between the control and experimental groups' post test results in terms of communication skills, the level of violence within the family and life satisfaction, while meaningful relationship was found in behavior control, sub-category of level of functionality within the family. The participants of the experimental group showed no meaningful relationship between their pre and post test results in terms of communication skills and life satisfaction, whereas the sub-categories of violence within the family- verbal violence, emotional response of family functionality, and behavior control- showed meaningful relationship in favor of post test and it was found that the mean of pre and post test results of the experimental group showed an increase in favor of post test in terms of all dimensions of the scale. Having analyzed the data gathered from the opinions of the participants in the experiment group, it was found that the aims of the program were successful by 95.85% and also the participants pointed out that the program was 100% effective to develop different points of view towards events and it contributes to life fluency. Following this study, it was found and suggested that the relationship and violence within a family have different roots; therefore, a coordinative program could be initiated with all members of the family; with reference to the difficulty of breaking the habits of adults, the program could be spread over a long time; the program could be applied to couples applying for marriage and create family awareness on domestic violence.
