THE EFFECT OF BODY IMAGE IN WOMEN TO PLAY SPORS (SAMPLE ELAZIĞ) Body perception is to create a persuasion by a person by evaluation his/her body as a whole. Nowadays, there is a period in which expectations referring female body change due to the various dynamic effects. The phenomenon woman has been transformed to a mode including having a thin, fit and in-shape body in addition to beauty, charm and grace. This study aims to determine the effects of body perception of women who attend to the sport centers in the city center of Elazig, on their sport activities. The survey includes 416 females representing all women doing sport 15 centers within the region. The study consists of two stages: literature research and concept framework and survey including a questionnaire and its interpretation. A questionnaire "body perception scale" developed by Secard and Jourard (1953) and adapted to Turkish by Selim Hovardaoglu (1986) was implemented. The first section of the questionnaire includes some variables and a scale in which the satisfaction level on body is determined by 40 questions. Each item consists of 5 levels from 1 ( I do not like at all) to 5 (I like very much) and a point between 40 to 200 can be gathered. Higher point means higher body perception. Of the women contributed 166 were married, the majority were between 31 and 40 years old and primary school graduates. 49 % of them did sport for less than 1 year. Considering body perception results, min value is 47, 00 and maximum is 165,00. The average of body perception points is =92.16. The average value between the scales "I like very much" and "I do not like at all" is =2.11 at I do not like level. 49.0 % of the women are within the normal borders regarding body mass index. Nearly half (52, 4 %) of the contributors is perceived as by the others. 48, 3 % of the overweighed perceived themselves as normal. The percentage of the married who state that the perception of their bodies by the spouse is important for them is 57.6. the percentage of the ones approving the effect of the body perception of their spouse on their sporting activities at " yes" or " partly" scale is 62,4. As a result, it was concluded that the perception of their spouses and the people around are effective in females' sporting activities rather than their body perception.
