Abstract (EN)
This research was carried out to determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI), depression, eating behavior and sleep quality in women. This research was carried out by using online questionnaire with 430 women between the ages of 22-64 who volunteered to participate in the research between January 2022 and March 2022. The survey of the study consists of a form containing questions about the sociodemographic information, physical activity habits, health status and nutritional habits, Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PUKI). According to the BMI classification, 5.6% of the individuals are underweight, 55.3% are normal, 39.1% are in the overweight/obese group. It was observed that there was a statistically significant difference between the DEBQ total, emotional, and external eating mean scores of individuals in different BMI groups (p<0.05). The mean total score of BDI was 12.5±8.58 and the mean total score of PUKI was 6.5±3.54. There is no statistically significant difference between the mean BDI and PUKI total scores of individuals in different BMI groups (p>0.05). A positive and statistically significant relationship was observed between the BDI scores and the total score of PUKI (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant relationship between the total scores DEBQ and the total scores PUKI (p>0.05). There was a positive and significant relationship between BDI scores and DEBQ total score, emotional and restrictive eating scores (p<0.05). There was a positive relationship between the BMI values and the DEBQ total score, emotional and external eating score, BDI score and sleep disorder subscale score. There was a significant negative correlation with the daytime dysfunction subscale score (p<0.05). This study reveals the relationships between factors such as body mass index, eating behavior, depression, and sleep quality. It provides clues that the problems in eating behaviors, depression symptoms and sleep quality of individuals may increase the risk of obesity in the future, and this possible increase in BMI values may result in an increase in other health risks.
