Examination of the relationship between diet practices and nutrition knowledge, HEALTHY eating obsession, body image and social media use in women

Abstract (EN)

This study was planned and carried out in order to determine the level of diet practices and healthy eating obsession, body perception, social media addiction and nutrition knowledge in women. 613 volunteer women aged 18-60 years were included in the study. Participants answered the questions of general information, anthropometric measurements, information about diet practices, information about social media use, ORTO-R, Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ-34), Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) and Sport Nutrition Knowledge Questionnaire (GeSNK). Average age of women 28.47±9.38 years. Most of the women (66.4%) have normal BMI. Women scored an average of 17.5±5.1 on the ORTO-R scale, 89.2±40.2 on the BSQ-34 scale, 38.6±12.5 on the GeSNK scale, and 17.3±6.1 on the BSMAS scale. It was determined that the ORTO-R, BSQ-34 and GeSNK total scores of the participants differed significantly according to BMI classification (p<0.05). The ORTO-R, BSQ-34 and BSMAS total scores of the individuals who followed the diet were found to be significantly higher than those who did not follow the diet (p<0.001; p<0.001; p<0.001). ORTO-R, BSMAS, BSQ-34 and GeSNK scores differ statistically significantly according to the women's satisfaction with their body weight (p<0.05). A statistically significant correlation was found between the total scores of ORTO-R, BSMSQ, BSQ-34 and GeSNK. As a result, orthorexic tendency, body image, social media addiction and nutritional knowledge level have an impact on diet practices, perspective on popular diets and diet practices through social media should evaluated together.
