Women's right tothe city and life strategies: Bodrum example

In the world and in Turkey, women cannot have equal rights in many fields. One of the areas, where gender equality cannot be achieved, is the level of using the rights that existing in the city. The city right, which is guaranteed by national and international conventions, emphasizes how important the level of using this right is in the life of the individual. With this study, it is aimed to examine the reasons why women cannot fully benefit from the rights in the city, based on the problem of the inadequacy of women's use of the city right in our country, and to draw attention to the policies and suggestions that should be implemented to solve this problem. For this purpose, in this study, the concept of women's right in the city has been examined in Turkey and the situation in Bodrum district of Muğla province. In this direction, first of all, the concept of the city right and the factors affecting the use of this right, the legal regulations including the city right were examined. In addition, the development of women's rights in Turkey and the position of the concept of the city right in the historical process were evaluated. In the study, the history of the formation of cities, the perception of gender in the cities, local government units and the local government structure in Turkey are mentioned. The effect of local governments on the use of the city rights in the world and in Turkey has been examined. In the third part of the study, the urban life of women in Bodrum district of Muğla province and their use of the city rights were examined. In the continuation, the situations that prevent the use of the city rights were tried to be revealed. In the last part of the study, solution proposals for that the women can use the city rights fairly in Turkey were evaluated. KEY WORDS: woman, city, city right, Bodrum.
