Viewpoints of women upon honor and early motherhood and social work intervention

This research investigated the "stories of early motherhood" and the condition of legalizing the violence based on gender through "honor or tradition" upon experiences of women. As for methodology, feminist approach was employed. This study aimed to identify the social issues caused by honor and pregnancy in adolescence in view of women, family life, the ecological system of women and society and to specify the relationship between the concepts. Narrative approach of qualitative research was used and Van and Edirne provinces were chosen as the universe on the grounds that they were representatives of two geographic regions of Turkey. In this research, the concept of "honor and early motherhood" was analyzed with feminist methodology. 20 life story inquiries were carried out with 20 women, 10 women from each city. It was revealed that the level of awareness of these two groups of women differed on the relationship between early motherhood and honor; however, they shared common experiences. This study consists of four parts. In the first part of the study the concept of border was evaluated in visual anthropological aspect and investigated in terms of women studies. In the second part, popularizing the misuse of the concept of honor by taking it out of context and women's perceptions were scrutinized. In the third part of the study, the related sections from the life stories of women were shared. In the fourth and last part of the study, the dimension of shared knowledge with regards to women studies and social work discipline was discussed.
