Women's political participation: Comparison of the European Union member countries and candidate country Turkey

Women's efforts to prove that they exist in the social, economic and social sphere, and their claims as a product of these efforts, date back to the French Revolution. Although the struggle that started on the basis of equality of all individuals and genders in the world and the women's movement has seen a significant distance today, the areas where women continue to be exposed to gender inequality are still quite high. The political field is the leading one; political parties are the most important platform in this field. In this study, considering the indispensable importance of political parties in the political sphere, the political participation of women is discussed in terms of their position in the political parties that affect the decision-making processes in the European Union member states. This is aimed to compare this countries with candidate country Turkey. In this context, firstly political participation and political participation of women are explained; Then, the European Union's approach to this issue, legal regulations and the situation in the member countries are examined and the countries that are prominent about the political participation of women are elaborated in this study. Finally, the status of candidate country Turkey is evaluated and regulations in the countries examined Union are also finalized work with comparisons in mind. The purpose of the study, women's active political participation in the context of the right to be elected is explored through gender equality mechanisms operated in European Union member states and candidate countries, the representation of women in top executive positions of the major political parties at the national level that how a situation in Turkey rates and countries. For this purpose the study of the European Institute for Gender Equality and the European Union statistical data received Parliament's Gender Equality Committee of the country reports are analyzed.
