Examination of women's social problem solving skills with various variables: Istanbul province case

This study examines the relation between various variables of women and levels of their social problem solving skills. The population of the research consists of 406 adult women, who participated voluntary, living in Istanbul and the data was collected by means of survey. "Social Problem Solving Inventory" which was adapted to Turkish by Duyan and Gelbal (2008) and "Personal Information Form" which was created to determine women's socio-demographic characteristics, economic levels, working status and social influences in their family and social lives.In accordance with the aims of the research, frequency and percent calculations were done to describe personal information and opinions of the women who participated in this research. Normal distribution test was executed to the data set and it was determined that the group was found not to be normally distributed. To describe opinions, "Kruskal Wallis H Test" was used to the subgroups and the results were tabulated and interpreted. According to the women's inventory scores, it is determined that their problem orientation performance is 71,6% and problem solving skill performance is 74,4%.A significant difference was not found according to the women's marital status variable. In working status variable, non-working women's scores in all sub-dimensions of problem solving skills except solution implementation and in dimension of problem orientation were found less than working women.Women living with their parents were found that they have less problem solving skills than women living alone and women living with their partners/children.In education variable, it was determined as the level of education increases, problem orientation skills and problem solving skills increase.Furthermore, statistical significance of the effects of child ownership, living place, income and social support mechanisms on social problem solving skills were determined.
