Abstract (EN)
Following the invasion and annexation of the Crimea, the Russian Tsarist Empire turned to the Caucasus as its new target. At that time the region which was bound to the Ottoman Empire for 300 years was invaded by the Russians over a period of 20 years. One of the occupied countries was Abkhazia. In addition to the decimation of Russians who lost their lives as many Abkhazians in Abkhazia settled in various countries, especially Turkey. Following the collapse of the Russian Tsarist Empire, Abkhazia became involved in various political structures in the Caucasus but after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, it was under the attack of Georgia which did not allow it to do so. The Abkhazians who removed their Georgian troops from their countries gained their de-facto independence. Today, they are struggling to establish their independence in the international arena. In this study small in terms of area of the Caucasus, but is of great importance from strategic perspective geopolitics of the Republic of Abkhazia, the Caucasus geopolitics, the history of Abkhazia mainly in the last 200 years, some important theories of the geopolitical science, Russia, Georgia and the region, especially Turkey all the actors are examined.
