In this study; It has been tried to remove the colorant in the paper mill waste waters with activated carbon produced at different parameters in the laboratory environment from the waste shells of chestnut fruit. Since the waste water of each factory and each process is different from each other, solutions were prepared with methylene blue in order to simulate the colorant in the factory waste water and these solutions were tried to be treated with activated carbon samples prepared at different parameters. Chestnut shell samples were obtained from chestnut sugar production plants operating in Bursa province and did not undergo any chemical treatment in the factory. After grinding, these samples were treated with phosphoric acid in different combinations and then pyrolyzed at different temperatures. After pyrolysis process, solid product yield, thermal analysis, waste water cleaning efficiency, %adsorbance, sem and ftir analyzes were performed. According to the analysis, the ash content of chestnut shell was determined as 2%. Chestnut shell is thought to be suitable for active carbon production due to its low ash content, easy storage and low cost (factory waste).After the carbonization process carried out at three different temperatures, it was found that the solid product yield decreased with increasing temperature. However, 1: 2 phosphoric acid-activated samples were observed to increase in solid product yield as acid ratio increased compared to 1: 1 phosphoric acid-activated samples at the same temperature.As a result of FTIR analysis, it was determined that aromatic bonds in the raw material deteriorated as a result of carbonization and activation processes. On the surface of the activated carbon sample, it was found that there are C-O and C-CH bonds belonging to the carboxylic, phenol and alcohol groups important for adsorption.In the light of the results obtained from the studies, it is thought that the activated carbon produced from chestnut shell can be used in the flotation waste water of paper mill.After adsorption, the amount of the equilibrated solutions were determined by spectrophotometer and the best unit adsorption capacity was tested by activated carbon sample with phosphoric acid ratio of 450 ° C temperature 1: 2 ratio.
