Effects of different green manure applications on yield and quality of silage corn in Kahramanmaraş-Göksun conditions

Abstract (EN)
This research was carried out between 2021-2023 in the Research and Application Area of Göksun Vocational School, Yantepe Village, Göksun District, Kahramanmaraş Province, in order to investigate the effects of 5 different green manure applications (pea, broad bean, vetch, rye and wheat) on the yield and quality parameters of silage corn plants according to the randomized block design with 3 replications. In addition, soil samples were taken before the research, during the research process and at the end of the research and the effects of green manure plants on the soil mineral structure were evaluated. The examined characteristics of green manure plants and silage corn plants for both years were determined separately and the numerical data for the two years were compared and quality elements were evaluated. As a result; It was determined that green manure application in silage corn plants had a positive effect on yield, quality and physical and chemical properties of the soil at the end of the second year. It was concluded that green manure application in silage corn cultivation would be a sustainable application in terms of agricultural production due to its contributions to both plant production and soil structure. In the research, it has been determined that legumes that we use as green manure plants provide better performance than gramineae and show more remarkable results in terms of yield and quality elements, and especially as a result of growing broad bean plant as pioneer green manure, positive results have been obtained in many quality and yield criteria. In the research, in silage corn plant; the highest average green grass yield (2832.00kg/da), average cob diameter (51.66 mm), average stem diameter (51.66 mm), average number of cobs per plant (1.67), average cob ratio in green grass (% 40.0), average cob ratio in dry matter (% 31.69), average dry matter yield (1234.69 kg/da), average crude protein ratio (% 5.22) and average crude protein yield (% 64.02) values were obtained from the plots where broad bean plant was grown as pioneer green manure. These results show that broad bean plant can be primarily preferred for green manure purposes in order to provide sustainable feed production from silage corn plant in Göksun conditions of Kahramanmaraş Province.
