Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the effect of pencil shape on writing speed of primary school students. In this study, first of all, it is aimed to determine the speed of which students write in which pen form. Secondly, it was aimed to see how much the pen shape affects writing speed. It is important to determine in which pen the student can write more, in order not to get tired of the hand of the student and not to get bored of the writing tasks. In this research, experimental model which is one of the quantitative research methods was used. Rotation model was used in semi-experimental models. The population of the study consists of primary school students studying in primary schools in Yozgat city center. Sampling was determined by cluster sampling method which is one of the probable sampling methods. Three primary schools were determined by cluster sampling method. Data were collected from 419 students in these primary schools. In the research, writing speed determination form was used as data collection tool. In this research, three different types of pencils were used. The pen shapes used are hexagonal, triangular and round pen. The phrase "I love my school." was written by the researcher on the board. Students were allowed to write the sentence specified in the data collection tool for 30 minutes. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used in the analysis of the data. In this research, descriptive statistics, mean, median, variance, standard deviation, minimum value, maximum value, range, skewness value, kurtosis value, graph were used. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Anova test, Bonferroni multiple comparison test were used. The quantitative data obtained from the students were analyzed through SPSS 21.0 statistical package program for social sciences. The letters written by the students in 30 minutes were counted. Number of letters was obtained for each student according to three pencil shapes. It was concluded that primary school students wrote 41 letters per minute with hexagonal pen and 47 letters per minute with triangular pen. It was determined that he wrote 49 letters with a round pen. The writing speed of female students in all pencil forms differed significantly and positively from male students. There is a significant difference between the number of letters written by primary school students and the number of letters written by hexagonal and triangular pencils (p<0.017). In addition, the number of letters written with triangular pencil significantly differed from the number of letters written with hexagonal pencil (p<0.017). According to these findings, it is understood that primary school students write with the fastest round pen, the second with the triangular pen, and the slowest with the hexagonal pen. Within the scope of the research results, it is recommended that all primary school students do writing with a round pen.
