Turkey-Africa economic relations within the scope of development assistances (2000-2019)

Development assistances is generally made to solve the economic and humanitarian problems of underdeveloped countries. Many countries around the world, especially traditional and emerging donor countries, carry out development aid activities. However, despite today's aid, economic and humanitarian problems in underdeveloped countries haven't been solved. At this point, the question to which areas the aid is provided and how effective it is comes to the fore. Western countries, which are considered as traditional donors, generally carry out project-based aid activities in the countries they donate. Turkey, on the other hand, in the position of an emerging donor country, generally carries out development aid activities focused on humanitarian aid. In the study, all development assistance made by Turkey around the world was examined. After, all the aids of Turkey to the African continent were examined. Eventually, official development assistance and economic relations that Turkey has provided to the countries of Somalia, Sudan and Niger, the countries with which it has helped the most on the African continent, were examined. These assistance is generally focused on humanitarian assistance. Also, it was determined that development assistance was provided to support the development of these countries in the fields of education, health and social infrastructure. As a result of the development cooperation policies established by Turkey with these countries, economic relations between the sides have developed. Therefore, the volume of foreign trade between the sides has grown. However, it has been concluded that foreign trade volumes are still very low for Turkey.
