Abstract (EN)
In this study, three different chalcone compounds were synthesized by Aldol condensation reaction of 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde and three different ketones (acetophenone, acetofuran and thioacetofuran). The synthesized compounds were characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, FTIR and UV-visible spectroscopy. The Uv-visible spectra of Fe+3, Cd+2, Hg+2, Cu+2, Ni+2 and Co+2 metal ions were examined and synthesized compounds were investigated to determine whether metals could be detected by chalcones. It was found that chalcones 1 and 2 did not interact with these metals, whereas chalcone 3 interacted with five metal ions other than Fe+3 and it formed new peaks in the UV-visible spectrum. In the light of these findings, it has been found that with the modifications to be made in chalcones, chalcones can be used selectively in metal ion detection.
