The data were collected from 60 patients as 30 for control group and 30 for experimental group in the dates between 9th April 2001 and 14th April 2002. In collecting data, questionnaire form which account for what the patients thought about transfer before and after being transferred and identifying features of the patients, State - Trait Anxiety Inventory and UCLA Loneliness Scale were used. In the analysis of data, defining tests were used. Of the patients included in the study, mean age was 47.4 years (SD= 10.55, between 25-69 years), 61.7 % were male (n=37), 38.3% were female (n=23), 98.3% were married (n=59), 1.7 % was single (n=l), and 45 % were primary educated (n=27). The number of the days on which the patients stayed at the intensive care unit was 2.8 (SD=, 99). 50 % Of the patients in control group stated that they felt fear due to lack of devices used to follow the changes of their health conditions after being transferred to the clinic, while those in experimental group stated that they felt no fear. The number of the patients who stated that they felt fear because of the absence of nurse all time with them in the clinic was 46.7 % in control group, 20 % in experimental group, and the difference between the groups was found significant ( p<0.05). The difference betweenvın State anxiety point averages of control group and experimental group was found statistically significant, in further extent, before during and after transfer (p<0.001). State anxiety level in the patients of experimental group was found lower than those of control group. The difference between Loneliness Scale means of the patients in control group and experimental group was found insignificant before transfer (p>0.05), and significant after transfer (p<0.05). The findings obtained as a result of this study indicate that planned training is effective for reducing the transfer anxiety. Upon this basis, standard transfer protocols for intensive care unit and educational programs should be developed and applied. W-
