Analysis of entrepreneurship experiences of retirees from public service in the sample of Izmir

The aging population is one of the most prominent demographic events of the current century. Despite the prolongation of human lifespan in the century we live in with the developments in the field of medicine, birth rates are decreasing and as a result, the proportion of the elderly population is gradually increasing compared to the general population. The increase in the proportion of the elderly population affects the social security field, especially in the field of health, working life, socio-cultural structure and family life in education and environmental issues, in short, all different segments of the society positively or negatively. The retirement period is also a process that is mostly found in the aging period. In this study, first of all, the definition, elements and dimensions of public officials, entreprenuership and retirement are conceptually explained. The processes of retiring from public service, the factors affecting their retirement decision, the characteristics of the retirement period and the retirement adjustment problems are analyzed. The enterprenurial behavior of public retirees, whose basis of the research is within the scope of Law No. 5510, 4C, has been examined specifically in İzmir. First of all, the entrepreneurship experiences of these people who opened their own workplace during their retirement period and then had to close or transfer their workplaces unsuccessfully were collected in the phenomenology pattern, which is one of the qualitative research methods. In the analysis of data collected by face to face interviews and recording the topics discussed in the interview form, the content analysis techniques are explained using the typological analysis technique. In the last part of our study, the opinions and suggestions that emerged from the analysis of the pension survey data we applied in the province of Izmir with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences-SPSS and the interpretation of the results obtained were included. In our study, by revealing the success and failure reasons of the entrepreneurship of retired people from public service, the difficulties faced by those who set up their own business after retiring from public service were tried to be determined. Based on the findings obtained as a result of the research, it is aimed to enlighten and guide especially public retirees with entrepreneurials potential and retirees with other status in our country.
