Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to determine the metaphorical perceptions of English Language teachers related to "CSSE" and "TFKE" and to examine the opinions of English teachers on CSSE and TFKE and then to suggest solutions by analysing the obtained outcomes. For this purpose, an interview form was created and sent to English teachers both who were graduated from various faculties in Turkey and entered the 2013 CSSE and TFKE. This study investigated the metaphorical images that English Language teachers have on the concept of CSSE and TFKE. Participants completed the phrase of "CSSE is like ........ because ..........." and "TFKE is like …….. because" to indicate their conceptualizations about them. In addition, participants were asked to answer 5 open-ended questions. Data was analyzed by using data analysis techniques "content analysis and descriptive analysis". According to research results, foregrounding and popular metaphors created by participants for CSSE concept are: "Horse Racing, Nightmare, Watermelon Selection, Marathon, Rasp of life, Bridge in the Hereafter (Sirat Bridge)". As for TFKE concept, they are: "Fine Sieve, Fruit Selection, Look for a Needle in a Haystrack, Suprise Eggs, Vitamin. When overall results were analyzed for open ended questions, participants pointed out that CSSE makes them psychologically, sociologically and physically weakened and it failed to provide an adequate and reliable measurement alone. However, participants think that these deficiency and negativity about CSSE were corrected with TFKE but not a huge amount of good. Because of this, they believe that there should be some arrangenments on TFKE. They also think that in addition to these two exams, for the selection of qualified and equipped prospective teachers, the introduction of various applications will lead to more reliable and valid results. Keywords: field knowledge examination, metaphor, CSSE, selection of teachers, teacher recruiting.
