The determination of Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae antibodies in poultry blood sera with ELISA

The determination of the presence and the prevalence of M. gallisepticum and M. synoviae infections in broiler and layer poultry houses at around Denizli, İzmir, Manisa, and Aydın provinces was aimed in this study. The material was consisted of 1060 blood samples (700 broiler and 360 layer chickens) that had been randomly collected from 60 poultry houses rearing Ross 308 and Brown Nick chickens with no vaccines. The presence of spesific antibody and antibody titers for M. gallisepticum and M. synoviae in sera samples were separately investigated with ELISA (BioCheck, Gouda, Holland). Antibody titers were calculated with a software provided by BioCheck. Chi-Square test was used for seropositivity ratio comparisons between groups. For all broilers in three provinces, seropositivity ratio for M. gallisepticum and M. synoviae was found as 26,4% and 60,2%, respectively. Seropositivity ratios of these provinces were showed statistically significant differences (P<0,001). It was determined that Manisa has the highest seropositity ratio among all provinces. On the other hand, seropositivity ratios for all sera samples (for both broiler and layer poultry houses) were found as 39,5% and 67,9% for M. gallisepticum and M. synoviae, respectively. It concluded that M. synoviae infection was common in these farms. For further investigations, it was recommended that related tests should be used for detection of mycoplasma negativity and Mycoplasma Control Programs should also be formed.
